Ajax stands for Asynchronous JavaScript+XML. It is combination of web development techniques interrelated with one another which is used to create interactive web applications. Ajax helps to retrieve data from the server asynchronously in the background without meddling with the display and behavior of the existing page. Ajax has brought a revolution in the field of interactive web pages design. Ajax isn’t something that can be downloaded, actually it is an approach where the architecture of web applications is designed using certain technologies

Ajax is not a single technology but is actually several technologies together. This whole concept of Ajax has been developed to avoid frustrating experience of the user when using interactive pages. Normally when a request is made through an interactive web page what happens is, technically it has to reach the server and come back, and this may take certain time. So the user has to wait each time thereby user’s interaction coming to halt each time. Good web design should not keep user waiting for long time. That’s where an Ajax application has a role to play. An Ajax application eliminates the interruptive type of interaction (start-stop-start-stop) on the Web by introducing an Ajax engine in between the user and server.

At the start of the session, the browser loads an Ajax engine which is written in JavaScript. The Ajax engine is given the responsibility of allowing user’s interaction with the application and communicating with the server on the user’s behalf. So the user is not kept waiting when server has to do something. Ajax technology has made the interactive web design more appealing and efficient by cutting down the waiting time for the user; user is more comfortable and involved in interaction with the website.

Ajax has played a very important role in making Web 2.0 technology popular, a big revolution in the field of internet. The core technologies for creating Ajax applications are very strong, stable and well understood, so the challenges that exist for designers are not technical but to work on combining these technologies to have ultimate goals achieved.

In spite of several and significant advantages of Ajax technology, there are few disadvantages of Ajax also. Pages created due to Ajax requests are not registered into browser’s history engine so clicking ‘back’ button on the browser will not take the user back to previous Ajax-enabled page. Web applications using Ajax have to provide an alternative means for accessing the content to web crawlers so that search engines can index it. Any user with a browser not supporting Ajax or JavaScript will not be able to use Ajax functionality.

Summary – This article gives precise information about Ajax that has been handy for Web 2.0 technological applications. Though Ajax technology has been a blessing to Web 2.0 technology applications, now it’s more of making interactive feature of Web 2.0 work with promptness, there are still some drawbacks in Ajax. Ajax has been added to prevent each and every user application to go to the server for response, thereby making interaction of the user with site very slow. Ajax applications are the combination of core technologies which are stable, well defined and well understood. Ajax technology since based on JavaScript is supported by those browsers only that are compatible with JavaScript.

Internet on Mobile
Sunday, May 16th, 2010 | Author: admin

In many developing countries, where communication markets are budding, the number of mobile phones is far more than the computers. The latest models of mobile phones being compatible to cater value added services, providing affordable internet services on mobile phones will not only help in meeting ends with digital divide but will encourage socio-economic development in the societies by providing information, communication and educational opportunities to many. In the developing communication markets, the main hurdles to acceptability to internet services are the cost of desktop/laptop computers and rolling out telephone and broadband cables. The low literacy rates in the developing countries is also responsible for lack of awareness in making use of internet services, since many people don’t care to have internet services even when they are readily available in their area.

The Personal Computer has been the most important technological inventions of the recent times; with internet it has brought revolution in the field of communication. But in future mobile-based internet will have an even greater impact on our lives. The main advantages of internet through mobile services are – high speed internet access, no need to buy an external modem as the mobile handset has an in-built modem, no separate ISP account needed and the same handset can be used for voice communication when no active data transfer is taking place.

Better said than done, to make the mobile internet a reality, there are some crucial issues to be addressed. How will mobile internet services be provided while user moves across various locations, where the same wireless service is not available? With so many users, how will the utilization of wireless resources will accommodate each of them to have uninterrupted services be possible? How will be the security issues handled when transmission is to take place through various wireless services provided by different operators?

Internet on mobile will have to support millions of always connected mobile/wireless users. Always connected to public internet services no matter where the user is, means not making connection before every transaction or after the change in wireless service. This will require extensive mobility management and flawless handover across different wireless networks. Another worrying factor is to support millions of users wirelessly connected to the internet. This gives rise to capacity concerns which has implications in design aspects. The wireless technology needs to be spectrum efficient so as to accommodate as large number of users as possible. If these two factors are taken care of, then internet on mobile is bound to create storm in the days to come.

Summary: This article explains why internet on mobile can be made popular down to the common man around the world. There is an added advantage to have internet on mobile over the conventional internet on computer in terms of cost, the significant factor for common people around the world. Popularity to internet can be treated as the means to bring a socio-economic development in the developing countries of the world. Though mobile internet can be thought of, as the future of this world, there are practical technical aspects to be worked on like ‘always on’ feature for moving user and large capacity issues from the day mobile internet will be used by millions.
